2019 was Prague's second-hottest year on record

Prague, Jan 4 (CTK) – Last year was the second warmest at the Prague-Klementinum meteorological station since 1775, when it launched regular measurements, with the average temperature of 12.6 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees below the record year 2018, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMU) said today.

Compared with the normal situation in 1981-2010, the year 2019 was 1.8 degrees warmer, meteorologist Pavel Juza wrote on the CHMU website.

Compared with the “older normal situation” in 1961-1990, last year’s upward deviation was 2.6 degrees.

Compared with the long-time annual average temperature from 1775-2004, the deviation was plus 3.6 degrees, Juza wrote.

The third and fourth places on the list of the warmest years at Prague-Klementinum are jointly occupied by the years 2014 and 2015 with the average temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius each.

The year 2007 follows with 12.1 degrees.

In the top ten positions, there is only one year preceding 2000. It is the year 1994, which finished the ninth [warmest],” Juza said.

December was very warm 2019 alone, with the Klementinum station registering the average temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, 2.8 degrees above the 1981-2010 average.

In December 2019, the highest recorded average daily temperature, 9.8 degrees, was on December 15, and the lowest, 0.4, on December 29.

Regular meteorological measurements started at the Klementinum observatory in 1752 already, but its temperature and air pressure data before 1775 is very incomplete.
