#1 Trams in Prague 4 diverted due to emergency repairs

From Aug. 26, tram services in the vicinity of the Koh-i-noor stop on Prague 4 will be diverted due to emergency utility repairs. Affected lines 6, 7, 19, and 95 will be redirected towards the city center via Čechovo náměstí, while line 13 will follow a revised route through Olšanské hřbitovy, I.P. Pavlova, and other stops. The suspension is expected to last approximately seven days. Meanwhile, repairs on Seifertova Street in Prague 3, which have affected eight lines, are expected to be completed by Aug. 29.

#2 Celebrate films from the Middle East and North Africa

The Al Qamar Film Festival, a vibrant festival celebrating film, food, and culture from the Middle East and North Africa, returns for its second edition at Edison Filmhub from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1. Al Qamar—meaning 'moon' in Arabic—offers an immersive experience featuring a diverse lineup of classic and contemporary films, delectable traditional cuisine, moonlight markets with unique gifts from across the region, and engaging discussions with distinguished guests from the film industry. All films will be shown with both Czech and English subtitles.

#3 Czech paper company hosts birthday party

Czech paper company Plojhar will turn 136 this year, but its newest branch in central Prague is celebrating its first birthday on Aug. 29. Join the festivities on the corner of Jindřišská and Politických vězňů streets from 11:00 a.m. for a party featuring refreshments, a kids corner with face painting, and new brands from the Czech Republic and Asia. Customers can also enjoy an extra 10 percent discount on all purchases.

#4 Deadline for boiler subsidy application

Starting in September, a ban on operating 1st and 2nd-emission-class boilers will take effect. Applications for boiler subsidies or New Green Savings program must be submitted by Aug. 31. Fines for non-compliance start in September, with inspections by local authorities. Interest in subsidies has surged, with 4,172 applications from June 2023 to May 2024. Low-income households receive ongoing support; others can get reduced subsidies for eco-friendly replacements.

#5 Prepare to go back to school

During the final week in August, preparation week for teachers and student reexamination takes place in the week before school officially starts. Teachers and administrators are on-site and often available to speak with parents by appointment. Lunches can be prepaid, and lunch cards or chips can be acquired at school cafeterias. This period is also used to reexamine students who failed one or more compulsory subjects to determine their advancement in the upcoming school year.
