#1 Hear and see a new exhibition from the Czech Philharmonic

Explore the connection between sight and sound at the new Hearing/Seeing exhibition, a collaboration between the Czech Philharmonic and Galerie Rudolfinum that opens from Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Rudolfinum Main Hall. This event, part of the Year of Czech Music 2024, showcases fifteen works by young artists that trace the connection between audiovisual art and classical music. The exhibition will run through Jan. 12, 2025.

#2 Das Filmfest showcases German-language cinema in Prague

Das Filmfest will kick off from Oct. 16-20 at Prague cinemas Kino Lucerna and Edison Filmhub, featuring over twenty German-language films. Highlights include The Glory of Life, a biographical drama about Franz Kafka's complicated relationships with women, and Goebbels and the Führer, which explores Nazi propaganda. The festival will move to Brno from Oct. 22-26, and concludes in Olomouc from Nov. 1-5.

#3 Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds come to Prague's O2 Arena

Aussie rock band Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds will perform at Prague's O2 Arena on Oct. 17, promoting their new album Wild God, which features collaborations with Colin Greenwood from Radiohead and guitarist Luis Almau. The concert will also include special guests The Murder Capital. Tickets are priced between CZK 1,290 and CZK 2,090. Wild God is the 18th studio album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and their first since 2019's Ghosteen.

#4 Prague cemeteries and funeral services host open days

From Oct.18-20, Cemetery and Funeral Services of the Capital City of Prague will host open days, allowing the public to explore its activities and facilities. This first-time event features a range of activities, some free and others requiring registration or tickets. Highlights include workshops from gravediggers and undertakers, and guided tours of Prague cemeteries in Smíchov and Vinohrady (including Olšanské Cemetery) and the Strašnice Crematorium, the largest in Europe.

#5 Catch a stand-up comedy show about being an expat in Prague

The stand-up comedy show Czechmates will take place on Oct. 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the 2.Patro club on Dlouhá Street. Featuring expats Carmine Rodi, Grant Gallacher, Debbie Liebenberg, Brian Lennon, and Luke Ryan, the show highlights humorous experiences and challenges faced while living in the Czech Republic. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are available for CZK 299. The performance will be in English, and reservations are strongly recommended. If you miss this week's show, an encore is scheduled for Nov. 22.

BONUS TIP: Don’t miss the festive opening concert of the Czech Museum of Music's 80th season, titled "Homage to Czech Masters." Taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. the evening fatures wworks by renowned composers such as A. Dvořák, L. Janáček, J. B. Foerster, Z. Lukáš, and P. Jurkovič. The Prague Mixed Choir, currently seeking new members, is under the direction of conductors Jiří Petrdlík and Jan Steyer, will perform alongside pianist Robert Kapr and violinist Jan Svoboda.
