Halloween in Prague is typically about dressing up, vamping out, and hitting the clubs. Or, if you have little ones, tricking or treating in Nebušice and pumpkins at Troja. All worthy activities, of course, but if you’re in search of thrills and chills minus the fanfare, or just want to try something different this year, these activities are for you:
Check out the findings from the ancient 5th-century burial ground at Prague-Zličín. The National Museums’s Death exhibit also deals with graves and burial rites both historic and modern.
The silent film masterpiece from 1922 will be accompanied by the haunting live melodies of these noted modern Czech composers and an all womens’ choir.
Black cats and Halloween go hand in hand; we can’t promise one will cross your path at this Karlín “cat cafe” though you’re sure to get your fill of pumpkin sweets and savories.
Skeletons in the closet and personal ghosts deserve our attention at Halloween, too. This Brno band’s longing, melancholy melodies should conjure up both.
Flight of the Conchords’ Jemaine Clement’s vampire comedy, on its way to becoming a cult classic, gets a repeat Prague showing (last year was a sell-out)!

If you like your horror on the active side then this nighttime 5K, a zombie-littered course of special effects, should maximize your fear factor and healthy heart rate.
If cocktails, spooky decor, and costumed revelry don’t impress, play live action hero for the night in a game of underground laser tag in the venue’s cellar.
Pregnant ladies, epileptics, and anyone with a heart condition are not recommended to attend this 600m2 haunted maze (apparently in operation year round).
Or just skip the holiday all together and join the annual Day of the Dead lantern processional through Stromovka; mariachi bands, folk puppets, and food to follow. An Oct 31 evening celebration is planned at Mexican restaurant Las Adelitas with drink specials, DJs, and an on-site make-up artist providing traditional Catrina Mexican skulls.
