Christmas Charity 2011

Člověk v tísni (People in Need) focuses on education, housing, employment, debt and other related issues which affect underpriviledged children and their respective families. With some 300-400 socially excluded areas in the Czech Republic, the NGO focuses on increasing the skills and knowledge of disadvantaged children prior to them entering the formal educational system, and removing social handicaps such as insufficient command of Czech or inability to become a part of the community; these problems often result in children being misdiagnosed and having to enter schools for those with learning difficulties.

Člověk v tísni (People in Need) also aims at helping children build on their talents and their learning potential. In all cases, the core belief is that children deserve an individual approach involving modern teaching methods that facilitates the personal will and motivation to suceed in life.

This year, we’re looking for the following items, which will be used to support People in Need’s Social Integration Programme and help disadvantaged children gain a step up before entering formal education:

The donated items will be distributed among children attending SIP programs throughout the Czech Republic. The donations will enrich the educational and artistic equipment of these institutions to support the struggle for the equal opportunities of pupils; computers will constitute an award for the best results at schools.
