Suicide Squad, starring Ben Affleck as Batman and a high-profile cast including Will Smith and Margot Robbie as the titular band of DC comics villains, opens in Czech cinemas on August 4, but one Batfan in Moravia has taken his love for the franchise to the streets.
According to a recent report on TV Nova, Znojmo resident Ronald Seunig has purchased the classic Batmobile created for Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman and seen throughout the subsequent three movies in the franchise.
Maxim recently spotted a certified replica being sold through a Russian website for $1.1 million, but the Nova report claims that this Znojmobile is the real-deal vehicle seen onscreen in the 1990s movies.
The value of the Batmobile is estimated to be in the tens of millions of CZK, but the price Seunig paid was not specified. He acquired the car from a German collector.
In the movies, the Batmobile was powered by a jet engine, but this one holds an eight-cylinder under the hood. Still, the driver’s seat resembles something of a cockpit. “This is a MiG 21,” Seunig jokes as he squeezes into it.
According to the Nova report, the new owner plans to donate the vehicle to a local museum in the area.
Until then, however, he’s willing to let interested parties take the Batmobile for a spin – as long as they can cough up a 10 million CZK security deposit.
The latest version of the Batmobile, which takes more after a tank than the sleek 90s design, can be seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming Suicide Squad film.
