This first day of Colours of Ostrava kicks off with Oprava’s DJ Philipoo playing the very best tracks to get the early birds into the festival spirit. This year’s festival promises to be a great one, with a fantastically eclectic line-up which will provide something for everyone in attendance. This will also be the first year for Colours at the new site. The location, an EU Protected Historic Landmark, will provide a unique setting for this exciting festival! The organisers have provided the perfect backdrop to compliment the varied and wide-ranging program, all just three tram stops from Ostrava’s city centre. There are also a number of well placed resting areas for those wanting to rest weary limbs.

The first day sees Rufus Wainwright and his band playing the Česká Spořitelna stage.

Colours Coverage - Day One

Rufus is a world-renowned musician with a slew of popular hits, so his show shouldn’t be missed! Mogwai are also a band definitely worth checking out. The Scottish, post-rock band play instrumental music with a unique twist. The sound is truly refreshing! Further into the week, there’s plenty to look forward to with 7 stages providing truly great musicians. Bobby McFerrin, Alanis Morissette, The Flaming Lips, Czech folk outfit Please the Trees, Rubik, and of course the fabulously futuristic Janelle Monáe will all be performing at this year’s jam packed event.

Colours has a number of workshops on offer. Perhaps you’d like to take advantage and learn a new skill at the festival. The designated workshop tent opens its doors on Thursday evening with a dance show and workshop. The two hour performance will include 120 dancers and a whole lot of energy! The show will cleverly incorporate new and old dance styles such as hip hop, oriental dance, country, Hawaiian, African rhythms, salsa, elektrickboogie, flamenco, folk dance and capoeira. As with all of the workshop shows you’ll have the opportunity to take part and learn a little something whilst enjoying yourself.

The city of Ostrava has allocated extra transport to and from the main train station, providing all festival goers with a safe and convenient method of transport during the festival period.  ake a moment to review the festival site map and acquaint yourself with the new Colours layout. I have a feeling that this year’s festival will be a great one! I for one am looking forward to the next few days of great music and fun!
