This weekend in Prague: Admire and adopt cats at an international exhibition

Design and politics|From March 25 to July 16, Retrotopia brings new perspectives on the topic of design within the environment to the National Gallery. These include insights into issues that architects and designers had to face in certain geopolitical situations, including how dialogue can take place through an "iron curtain."

Czech artist|The career of one of the most important Czech artists of the 19th century is explored in Josef Mánes: Man ⁠–⁠ Artist ⁠–⁠ Legend. The exhibition is an overview of Mánes' works, which include images, landscapes, allegories, canvases, drawings, and prints, placed in the context of the work of his Czech contemporaries and foreign artists who influenced the Czech arts. It opens at the Waldstein Riding School on March 31.

Electronic experiments|Cult German experimental electronic music producer Pantha du Prince, known for his straight beats and unusual concepts, will perform at Palác Akropolis on March 31. Supporting acts include Czech music projects Badfocus, Emerged Live, and VJ Fotonx.

Audiovisual creations|The Mesh Showcase: Max Cooper 3H DJ set, Alex Banks live, Llyr live is at Meet Factory on April 1. Polymath British producer and audiovisual artist Max Cooper, as well as other leading acts from his label Mesh Records, will perform live against a backdrop of site-specific visualizations by Czech artist Jan Hladil, known for his works as part of the Signal Festival.

Barbet Schroeder retrospective|Catch three films from Iranian-born Swiss film director Barbet Schroeder at the Edison Filmhub on 31 March. The selection (which has English subtitles) includes More and Obscured by Clouds, both of them with a soundtrack by Pink Floyd, and Mistress, starring a young Gérard Depardieu.

Tax season blues|This year's Academy Awards sensation Everything Everywhere All at Once is at Kino Aero on March 31, plus April 1 and 2. The seven-award-winner is a sci-fi action adventure film centered on an exhausted Chinese American woman played by Michelle Yeoh, who has trouble finishing her taxes.

Cultural comedy|Plays allegedly by the luckless Jára Cimrman are deeply embedded in modern Czech culture. The Cimrman English Theatre presents The Act at Žižkovské divadlo Járy Cimrmana on March 31. They perform in English using props and costumes from the original versions. These shows usually sell out in advance but sometimes last-minute tickets are available.

food

Czech beer|Try various brews at Prague Beer Fest, which runs from March 31 to April 1 at Hall 13 at Pražská tržnice. This year's edition will see the participation of more than 50 breweries, including 25 breweries from 17 European countries and the U.S. In addition to more than 200 types of draught beers, plus a wide variety of offerings in bottles and cans, the festival will include street food and fun, beer-related activities.

Seasonal market|The first Zbraslav market of the season takes place on April 1. Come taste and shop from a selection of seasonal vegetables and fruits, sausages, delicacies, sweet and savory pastries, desserts, spreads, coffee, beer, and wine. In addition to Easter-themed stalls, the market will also have a theater and workshops for kids.

Street food fest|The Karlínský Food Truck festival will bring a selection of delicious food to Karlín Market on April 2. The food will come from the Mexicali Taco truck, Mácova kára, Take Eat EZ, Nabu sandwich, WoW bar, MATE'S Pizza truck, and many other places, while Circus Brothers and DJ Hlava will provide the music.

Easter brunch|Manifesto Anděl is having an Easter-themed Brunch & Beats on April 2. In addition to food coming from 13 different restaurants representing cuisines from all over the world, all accompanied by live music, the brunch is packed with fun activities for kids, such as dressing up in Easter-themed costumes.

Japanese-themed festival|The cherry blossom festival Hanami takes place on April 1 at Pivovar Strahov and restaurant Sv. Norbert. The festival of blooming cherry blossoms will feature a special batch of Norbert Sakura Amber Ale, a Japanese-style menu, and an accompanying program of a tea ceremony, martial arts, archery, calligraphy, ink painting, kimonos, and much more.

Cat exhibition|The international cat exhibition Kočky Praha 2023 will be on April 1 and 2 at the TOP HOTEL Praha. Admire the cats on display, learn more about pedigree breeding, and cast your vote in the best-breed cat competitions that take place on both days. An exhibition of shelter cats allows you to adopt a cat and take it home straight away.
