Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala spoke by phone with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, congratulating him on his election victory and discussing Ukraine and the Middle East, Fiala shared on X Friday evening.
"I look forward to our close collaboration," Fiala said, describing their conversation as "excellent."
Fiala noted that they also spoke of Trump’s memories of Prague and recalled his late wife, Ivana Trump, who was originally from Czechoslovakia.
Last week, Trump defeated his Democratic opponent, outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris, in the U.S. presidential election. He is set to assume office on Jan. 20.
"I congratulated the President-elect on his election victory, and we talked about Ukraine, as well as Israel and the Middle East," Fiala said.
Fiala had congratulated Trump shortly after his victory last week, emphasizing a shared goal "to ensure that relations between our countries remain at the highest level, despite changes in administration, and that we continue to develop them for the benefit of our citizens."
Earlier this year, Fiala met with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House in April, describing the meeting as a testament to the strong level of Czech-American relations.
