Launched as an online venture and appointment-only showroom by design enthusiasts Adam Karásek and Jiří Mrázek in 2011, the Nanovo studio – specializing in restored furniture of the Czechoslovak era – has opened a store in central Prague.
Located on Týnská street in Old Town Square, the Nanovo shop stocks not only funky armchairs and end tables but an eclectic assortment of decor, accessories, and bric-a-brac from the second half of the 20th century.
On the market for a vintage slot machine? Old school barber’s chair? Retro Czech science class signage? Here’s your place. Czech-made Prim watches and Ton chairs mingle with international pieces of the same era, like a Garden Egg chair set by German artist Peter Ghyczy.
Many of the pieces are partially or fully renovated by Karásek and Mrázek in their studio. Prices range from the affordable (19 EUR for an ashtray; 23 EUR for a candle holder) to the budget-busting. That barber’s chair will set you back 692 EUR.
Open since July, an official Nanovo opening event will take place on September 30. The event will also mark the debut of a new installation by design studioMUCK and an exhibit of 1980s artifacts from the communist-era luxury Hotel Praha, demolished in 2014.
