The movement to close the gender pay gap in the Czech Republic is gaining momentum

The Equal Pay Day initiative aims to draw awareness to the gender pay gap by hosting a series of talks, events, and mentoring opportunities later this month.

It’s no surprise the event is held in March — this month (March 17th to be precise) marked the symbolic date to which women must work in order to earn the same average wage for 2018 as men.

According to the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) the difference between the average wages of men and women in 2017 was 20.7% in the Czech Republic; the highest pay gap continues to exist between women and men with university education, on average 27.8%.

Differences in the Czech Republic also persist in the representation of men and women in company management. Currently, only 7% of managers at Czech firms are women.

Remuneration inequalities, leadership, and work-life balance are just a few of the topics that will be addressed at Equal Pay Day. Close to thirty speakers and more than sixty mentors (a mix of men and women from the Czech and international professional realms) will share their stories and experiences navigating corporate culture.

For those seeking career advice and networking opportunities, a unique “speed mentoring” session is planned.
