A few dozen hardy swimmers jumped into the Vltava in Braník as a light snow fell and the temperature hovered around -5 degrees Celsius.

Leaders of the Plavecký klub otužilců – roughly translated as the Tough Swimmers’ Club – “christened” new members at the first event of the year on January 8.

Other members have been with the club for decades, like 86-year-old Božena Černá. Last month, the group held its 70th annual swim on December 26 in front of the National Theatre.
