Now in its 9th successful year, Hip Hop Kemp has built a reputation amongst artists and fans alike for being one of Europe´s (if not the world´s) largest festivals dedicated solely to the celebration and recognition of hip hop music and culture. Situated  in an ex air-force base in Hradec Kralove, in Czech Republic´s Bohemia region – approx 2hrs north-east of Prague – the festival offers visitors from all over Europe, America, Australia and many other countries, the rare opportunity to bask in the summer sun, drink ice cold beer, whilst catching some of the hottest hip hop acts from all over the world.

Whilst many other festivals may offer one dedicated hip hop or ‘urban´ stage during their busy programmes, Hip Hop Kemp reserves the entire weekend for the genre and all of its related art forms, with breakdancing, basketball, BMX, skateboarding and street art zones all provided for the 20,000+ strong crowd – all that for just over 1000CZK for the entire weekend!

2010 (19-21 August) sees some big changes for the popular festival and a more progressive line up than in previous years. The HHK team will be bringing the very best in UK Grime to the Czech Republic. They were extremely pleased to announce the Grime Allstars Stage: P-Money, Ghetts, Dot Rotten, Blacks, Black The Ripper. With DJ’s Spyro, Maximum, and Logan Sama (KISS FM) hosted by Envy and Tony Black.  For the more traditional hop hop fan, you’ll be pleased to see the names Talib Kweli &DJ Hi Tek.  Kweli of Blackstarr fame is a true hip hop star and has released a slew of popular high quality albums during his career.

For those staunch UK fans: Roots Manuva will be a festival line up highlight. The south London bass lord has a the craziest live show going. He’ll be supported by his newly formed live band: Banana Klan. Foreign Beggars will also be performing tracks from their latest album “United Colours of Beggatron”. The band’s front man Orifice Vulgatron will be showing off his triple-speed rapping skills. Representing the UK’s newcomers- DJ King, Woody Madera and the super-high quality Jack Flash.

It´s only right that a Czech Hip Hop festival should include its homegrown and neighbouring talent up there with the big guns from across the Atlantic. PSH, Kontrafakt, Indy & Which + LA4, Praga Union, Vec and Zverina aka CP Kombo, H16, PIO Squad, Moja Reč, Peťo Tázok & Karaoke Tundra, BPM, IdeaFatte, Sup Tafrob & DJ Maztah, Kaidžas & DJ Lucco & Lyrik DJ Spank and SEdláci. That is the best of Bohemia and Slovakia!
Aside from great music there’s also a plethora of activities for the adventurous ones out there. Bungee jumping, Aquazorbing, Abseiling, Paint balling, Poker (Texas hold em) and Basketball courts hosted by Kingfit streetball arena.

Competitions on offer in all weird and wonderful shapes and sizes. Specially designed and designated graffiti walls for the more artsitic visitors. It’s safe to say there’s plenty to see, do and hear at the Hip Hop  Kemp. Worst case scenario: relax in the sun and drink delicious beer!
