Skating rinks are opening across Prague for the winter season. Most offer skate rentals, and some have refreshments and other amenities. The most popular rinks are at the big field at Letná Park in Prague 7. Those two are also free, as is the rink at Ovocný trh, near Old Town Square.
The hours can be a
bit tricky as many close for half-hour or hour blocks during the day
to maintain the ice. Also, there are special events planned and
different hours for holidays, so it is best to check the schedule
before going.
The rinks at Letná,
sponsored by the city, are in its fourth year. A large 40 x 20 meter
rink is for general sports enthusiasts, while a smaller 22 x 10 meter
rink is for children. There will be a large heated heated tent, a
heated dressing room, and refreshments.
The opening ceremony
for the Letná rinks is on November 29 at 4 pm. “I’m glad that
this year we continue this popular project and I look forward to
meeting visitors at the opening ceremony, where we will see a figure
skating performance and an exhibition match of para hockey players,”
Prague City Councior Vít Šimral said.
Among the privately operated rinks, the one under the Žižkov TV Tower is popular, but on the pricier side at 100 CZK for a two-hour block in the daytime and 120 CZK in the evening.
