The world’s leading streaming service Netflix announced expansion into 130 countries of the world last week including the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A free trial monthly subscription is now available; basic monthly packages range from 220-325 CZK.

If your taste skews indie, these English-friendly local sites offer an interesting alternative to Netflix:

This relatively new service lets you watch films that have been screened at Prague arthouse cinemas Aero, Bio Oko, and Světozor. See the Eng-friendly catalogue of films here.

Stream in high-quality or you can download a range of Czech films, blockbusters, and foreign indies for 60 CZK to 90 CZK; one downside: the site interface is only in Czech only.

Billing itself as an online documentary cinema, DA Films is backed by a group of seven important European film festivals.

Their streaming service offers more than 1,000 docs for streaming or downloading. Prices range from free to 5 EUR with a catalog comprising everything from shorts to popular festival selections.

The dual-language website include interviews with directors and film fest news in English.
