Over the weekend, the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins celebrated both the team’s 50th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of their first Stanley Cup, for the 1991-92 season.

In Pittsburgh, that 1991 team returned for a team photo that was posted to the Penguins official Twitter account.

Of course, there’s one famous Penguin missing from that shot: Czech star Jaromír Jágr, who joined the team the previous year. At the age of 18, he was the first Czechoslovakian player drafted by the NHL without first having to defect.

But Jágr had a good excuse for missing the weekend celebrations in Pittsburgh: 25 years later, and he’s still in the NHL, now playing for the Florida Panthers.

At just shy of 45, Jágr is currently the oldest player in the NHL – he’s got nearly five years on Shane Doan and Matt Cullen.

He’s also the third-oldest position player in NHL history, though he’ll need to play eight more years to match Gordie Howe’s all-time record.

Earlier this season, Jágr scored his historic 750th goal. He’s third all-time in that that category, too. He’s also third all-time in points, with 1880 – but needs just 7 more to pass Mark Messier for #2.

Jágr’s one-year, $4 million deal with the Panthers will expire in 2017, but the ageless star has given no indication of retirement.

In fact, he’s previously stated that he wants to play “until 50, maybe more.”
