Skating rinks across Prague are opening for the winter season. Many of the city's rinks are in scenic locales and offer skate rentals, refreshments, and open-air fun throughout the holiday season.
This year, of course, opening hours and crowd limits are subject to change at very short notice so it is best to double check each rink's website before going. Many places recommend that visitors bring their own skates this year for hygienic reasons. Some also recommend cashless payments.
Many rinks have confusing hours, closing for maintenance at times in the day. Ticket prices can also be tricky as some are for specific time slots and not for all day. Hours for Christmas are often shorter than normal. Some places will be having family events close to the holidays, and those are listed on the venue’s website or Facebook page.
The most popular rinks are at the big field at Letná Park in Prague 7 and Hvězda in Prague 6. Those two are also free. The rink at Ovocný trh, near Old Town Square, is opening relatively late this year, on Dec. 21.
There are new rinks in Prague 2 at Havlíčkovy sady near the Gröbova vila (Grebovka) and in Folimanka park.
Among the privately operated rinks, the one under the Žižkov TV Tower is popular, and located next to a small restaurant, which has above-average refreshments.
