Want to make the most of the summer sunshine? There’s no better way than checking off the classic picnic from your seasonal bucket list. Luckily, Prague is home to an array of picturesque picnic spots that you’ll never want to leave.

Grill spots and picnic areas in the center

Craving a barbecue? You’re in luck! Prague and its surroundings are brimming with picnic areas equipped with fire pits or portable grills, allowing you to enjoy good food and nature all at once. Surprisingly, you can grill right in the heart of the city. Head over to Vítkov hill, where you’ll find three prime picnic spots: New Steps, Pražačka, and U sportovního hřiště. For an afternoon barbecue with a view, consider the public seating area at Petřín, accessible via a scenic walk along Vítězná Street.

Stromovka, Prague's largest, leafiest park, offers several barbecue spots. Explore the Královská obora (Royal Game Preserve), relax by the Malá rivulet, or fire up the grill by the Podmokelská track. For a more romantic setting, the Star Game Preserve (Obora Hvězda). Hvězda offers two barbecue areas near the chateau or just a short stroll from Ve Hvězda pond.

If you want to escape the city’s hustle and bustle, venture out to Divoká Šárka or other nearby forest parks. Add Ďáblický háj – V Lomu, Hostivař dam, Chuchelský háj-V Lomu, or Prokopské údolí-Klukovice to your list of serene picnic destinations.

Fill your basket with minimal fuss

Prewrapped sandwiches and other picnic refreshments are easy to come by in Prague. Stop by Café Savoy for filled croissants, fresh pastries, or sandwiches. In Karlín, Eska offers a range of tasty to-go options, from vegetable tarts to Moravian cakes.

U Kalendů pub on the right bank of the Vltava River sells delicious takeaway egg sandwiches, perfect for a picnic. Myšák confectionery also delivers a tempting selection of goodies across Prague until the end of September for free—ideal for a last-minute feast.

Swing by Našo Maso for expertly sliced and wrapped hams and sausages, or grab a local favorite like meatloaf in a bun.

Chef's tip

Prefer to whip up something at home? A classic Czech picnic staple is a schnitzel sandwich. Simply fry a chicken or pork schnitzel and tuck it between two slices of bread—sure to be a crowd-pleaser. See our recipes for sandwiches and spreads.

Best of the beverages

In the center, Vin de Marie has a selection of natural wines, from red and rosé to orange and white. Pair your wine with sardines, cheeses, or cured meats for a gourmet picnic experience. Beer enthusiasts can pick up a cold can at Pult, where you’ll find a range of non-alcoholic options in their well-stocked fridge.
