Meridian International School has joined Perrott Hill Education, an independent education group with schools around Europe committed to helping students reach their full academic potential in supportive and enriching environments.
A stalwart on the Prague international school scene for two decades, Meridian has seen rapid growth over the years, offering top-tier K-12 education based on the globally recognized British curriculum to students from around the world.
The move to join Perrott Hill Education is intended to further strengthen and expand the school’s academic and extra-curricular programs at its three campuses cluttered in Prague 8.
The rollout of changes, the majority of which will take place over the summer, will be gradual to give the school community time to adjust. But the rebranding process is already well underway with the school unveiling its new moniker – Perrott Hill British School Prague (or PHBS) – online this week.
This is not just a rebrand, but bringing the school into a wider group of schools which work collaboratively together,” says Dr. Craig Wilson, the new Executive Headmaster of PHBS.
“School groups bring numerous benefits to schools, their staff and students. Sharing of ideas and resources within the group will enable our staff to benefit from the experience of a wider group of colleagues, to access teaching and pastoral resources and expertise from across the group, and share their own experience.”
For students, there will initially be the chance to join the summer school at Perrott Hill in the UK, but opportunities to link with students at the other schools in the group are in the planning stage.
Strengthening academic & extra-curricular offering
While PHBS, a Cambridge (CAIE) accredited school, has no intention of making substantial changes to the curricula already in place, administrators are looking at ways to revamp the extra-curricular offering particularly in the areas of music and sports.
Throughout the whole school, EAL/ESL teaching will also be strengthened. The PHBS student body comprises more than 50 nationalities coming from various academic backgrounds, and the school is ready to accommodate their specific needs during the adaptation period with an individualized ESL program.
University counseling services, meanwhile, are set to be expanded at PHBS High School to support students as they prepare their university applications and study to take their IGCSE and A-level exams. Students who are part of the school’s Czech program will continue to be eligible to take the Maturita exam.
Building upon a long-established Prague reputation
Ultimately, Perrott Hill Education aims to build upon Meridian’s long-established reputation within Prague’s burgeoning international community.
The goal is to be as transparent as possible about each new change as it’s implemented. In addition to strengthening academic services and extra-curricular activities, PHBS will also introduce a school uniform in September.
Dr. Wilson, who will be relocating his family from the UK to Prague over the coming months, is optimistic and excited about what the future holds.
I am delighted to have joined the Perrott Hill British School Prague community at this stage in the school's journey. I bring many years experience of delivering all the benefits of a British-inspired education in international contexts,” he says.
“As I hoped, I have found a school which already demonstrates strengths in many areas, but crucially a senior leadership and wider staff team who wish to continually improve the experience which students receive and have ideas to do so. My arrival will enable us to combine some of the ideas which I bring with those already circulating in the school, and also greater senior-staff capacity to bring them to fruition.”
