Prague is forecast to be the fastest growing retail market in Europe until 2022

From the exclusive boutiques of Pařížská Street to the fast-fashion flagships of Na Příkopě (coming soon, to a location TBA, Primark), the Czech capital can certainly hold its own as a shopping destination.

But is it among the world’s best?

According to the latest research by Savills, a global real estate consultant, it actually is: Prague is forecast to be the fastest growing retail market in Europe until 2022.

In the survey, Savills ranked the 40 most fashionable metropolises based on tourism statistics, mapping visitor numbers and growth, GDP, retail data, and population growth and potential for further growth.

Top 10 Retails Markets in Europe:

London         Stockholm Dublin Oslo Munich Vienna Madrid Prague Berlin Paris

The ranking saw London at the top, followed by Stockholm and Dublin in third place. Prague, in the number 8 slot, outpaced Berlin and Paris to become the only metropolis in Central and Eastern Europe to crack the top ten.

In its survey of fashionable retail markets expected to see the greatest growth in 2018-2022, Savills focused on 22 European cities with a population of between 1 and 5 million, with the volume of fashionable goods sold by the end of 2017, exceeded 500 million dollars. 

The largest growth was expected in Prague and Warsaw, and the forecast also expects strong growth in other “emerging CEE cities, such as Krakow, Budapest, and Bucharest.

With major developments coming to the lower part of Wenceslas Square and Národní třída and international labels continuing to take up residence in the Old Town, including most recently The Store and Christian Louboutin, the Czech capital’s continued status as a European shopping mecca seems certain
