As the summer sun creeps out, socialites begin to switch their locations of choice. Out with the dark cavernous bar and pivnice, it’s time to embrace the great outdoors and enjoy your beverage in the open air. We take a look at some of Prague’s most interesting outdoor venues, beer gardens, and beaches.

Sometimes simplicity is all that’s needed! Directly beneath Vratislav Karel Novák’s Letensky Sady metronome you’ll find the ruff and rugged Stalin Containall. Wade through the lounging cool kids to find the makeshift bar at the semi-permanent outdoor space. Lobkowicz beer and a selection of simple summer cocktails are served in plastic cups with deck chairs provided for patrons to kick back and enjoy the breath-taking views. Organised brunches, children’s activities, foodie events, and more all await at Prague’s outdoor spot with a difference.

The historically cultural space enjoyed a new lease of life back in 2014, bringing all manner of interesting events to the once bustling train station. The cool and shady space is beautifully rustic providing ample space for the varied and progressive program.  Theatre, music, architecture, and film events take place with information shared through the venue’s social media outlets. Worth checking out.

The mysterious artistic performance space/venue is located on Ostrov Štvanice close to Prague’s Hlávkův most. The beautiful period building is slightly set-back from the busy main road, nestled in the greenery that lines the Vila’s river banks. Describing itself as part of the “insular scene in Prague” the venue offers a selection of theatre performances, parties, and festivals.

The coolest kids on Rašínovo nábřeží have been peddling beverages, light refreshments, and bicycle services since opening their doors way back in June of 2010. A friendly atmosphere with cheerful, accommodating staff, Bajkazyl serves as a workshop, recycling point, (mini) supermarket, information center, bike rental point, and reasonably-priced bar. Bajkazyl offers Herold beer (10°/30CZK) and Flamendrák 11° (32CZK), gin, whisky, rum, and Czech classics plus a wide range of non-alcholic lemonades. Those wanting a light bite can indulge in the snacks menu. Truly the first stop for any self-respecting ‘urban cyclist’ in Prague.

The explanation is in the name! ‘BarOnLoď or BarOnBoat on Rašínovo nábřeží is a simple and effective concept with plenty of potential for those of you who enjoy a spot of people watching! The riverside perch gives both the performer and spectator a truly unique experience! Spectators sit on the riverside, while ordering drinks from the floating bar (hence, bar on boat!) all done as musical/theatrical performances take place on a floating stage. A novel idea, not for the faint-hearted.

The floating Rašínovo nábřeží performance space serves up excellent beer and refreshments, Únětická 10° (35CZK) and 12°(39CZK) beer or F.H Prager Cider (45CZK) and an extensive selection for the non-alcho drinkers. Club Mate, Original ginger beer, True Tea, Vinea, Pure Coco and homemade lemonade to name but a few. That’s to say nothing of the inventive entertainment offered; from Balkan concerts to other live music and theatre performance.

A truly multi-functional space, summer cinema location, beach club, sport area, food area, and event space. This Hořejší nábřeží 2 “beach” opens officially on the 17.6 so be ready to take full advantage of the ample facilities promised. Seems like a great location for the active or those seeking relaxation and solace from city life.

After much deliberation and navigational disputes we eventually came to the perfectly rugged Přístav 18600. The open-air theatre slash chill-out space, located on the river banks of the Vltava has a great vibe. Patrons lounge around in hammocks, chatting and stoking open fires, grilling food, and generally soaking up the friendly atmosphere. The river is a stone’s throw away (parents of young children should be mindful of the lack of any kind of river barrier). Homemade refreshments served including cookies and banana bread. Beer wise, Černá Hora’s Páter (32CZK) and Kvasar (35CZK). Fantastic park!
