SAX to the MAX!
at Fringe Fest ’08

SAX to the MAX! pushes the energy and imagination of more than twenty feisty saxophonists to extremes and draws on all the resources of their splendid eight-sax family to deliver an appealing but uncompromising programme of genre-busting versatility, targeted at both musically adventurous and family audiences.

This will be the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain’s first visit to the Prague Fringe Festival after taking its highly successful programme to two Edinburgh International Festivals, three Birmingham ArtsFests, the British Saxophone Congress, and a tour of Hong Kong and China. Since its beginnings in 2002, the NSC has been busy pursuing its goals of creating new audiences with popular concerts, establishing the sax choir and its repertoire as a respected genre (prestigious gigs with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, and at the World Sax Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia) and promoting new music, with nine premieres to date.

From modern day city soundscapes to Argentinean tango and Bach chamber music, this show weaves through music old and new, combining innovative programming with a unique instrumental line-up. Featuring the world’s smallest saxophone, the soprillo, right down to the mighty tubax, the NSC will take you on a musical journey around the globe, with the occasional stop to unveil the full character and power of the saxophone family. So, come along and experience SAX to the MAX! – and witness the flowering of the sax choir phenomenon!
