Released in December 2016, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a prequel to the very first Star Wars movie, has quickly become one of the top-grossing films of 2016, already raking in over 600 million USD at the box office worldwide and garnering critical praise.

But not all is well in Lucas’s intergalactic world: the late December death of Carrie Fisher was a blow for fans throughout the holiday season who took to social media to memorialize the fallen Leia Organa, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters (Fisher’s younger self makes just a brief CG cameo in Rogue One).

Today there is some good news for fans of the series, especially those based here in the Czech Republic. Details and dialogue for Stars Wars Episode VIII, the next installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy directed by Rian Johnson, have leaked with those attached to the production saying that a trailer could be here as early as spring.

The film is set to open in late 2017 with a UK/US release date of Friday, December 15. However, according to Games Radar on-line: “bizarrely, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia can apparently catch it a day earlier on December 14. Everybody else will have to wait another agonising day.”

Fisher, who was set to appear in episode eight as General Leia Organa completed filming before her death at 60, reports Variety, meaning that producers will not have to address her absence until the ninth film begins shooting in 2018.
