Party in a Prague nightclub connected to outbreak of 65 new COVID-19 cases

Prague, July 22 (CTK) – Public health officials report that 65 people, including several professional football players, who attended a party at a night club in Prague were infected with the novel coronavirus last weekend.

The party took place on Saturday, July 11, Prague Public Health Office director Zdenka Jagrova told Czech Television today.

She said it was unique to link more than 60 infected individuals to one event. The number of new cases detected in Prague was between 60 to 100 per week throughout the last month.

The party was attended by 17 people, 15 of whom were infected with the coronavirus. Subsequent testing detected the virus in additional people who came into contact with them.

The Seznam Zpravy server has reported that along with the infected, and an additional 120 people have ended up in quarantine.

According to the reports, the football players who were infected were from the reserve teams of Sparta, Dukla, and Bohemians 1905 football clubs.

The Bohemians reserve team had to end its spring training season due to two infections.

The Dukla team reports one infected in its youth team and Sparta did not release any data on the number of infected.

The A-teams of the clubs have not been affected reportedly.

According to Seznam Zpravy, information on social media suggests that the origin of the virus was a person who showed no symptoms of the COVID-19 disease on the day of the party. Some people claimed that it was a young woman that came into contact with the football players.

A record 5,000 people are currently infected with coronavirus in the Czech Republic, according to the latest data released by the Czech Health Ministry Wednesday morning.
