Catch outdoor theater and circus performances

Starting on July 12, the Za dveřmi (Behind the Door) Street Theater Festival in Prague offers a week-long celebration of theater, new circus, and outdoor performances. The festival will take place at various locations, including the Holešovice market and Mariánské náměstí. The weekend program has a special family day on Sunday, accompanied by actor, puppeteer, and performer Vítek Maštalíř. 

Enjoy wine, prosecco, and adrenaline by the Vltava

Between July 14 and 16, the Wine and food festival brings wine, prosecco, craft beer from the Beránek Brewery, and street food to Střelecký Ostrov. Also for wine lovers, the Wine and flyboard show is on July 15 at the Náplavka Rašínovo Nábřeží. While watching the performance of acrobat Petr Civín, who won fourth place at the Flyboarding World Championship, taste wines from small family winemakers from South Moravia and other areas. 

Watch movies that made waves at Karlovy Vary

If you couldn’t make it to Karlovy Vary for movie premieres, watch the festival highlights at the Kino Světozor, Aero, Přítomnost, and Scala University Cinema as part of the Šary Vary festival. Among them, You Sing Loud, I Sing Louder, and Luxembourg, Luxembourg are on July 14; Champions, Perfect Days, and Sensitive Person are on July 15; and To the North, Past Lives, and Fremont are on July 16 at Kino Světozor (all of them with English subtitles).

Visit the largest nuclear shelter in Prague

Catch a glimpse of the Cold War era at the nuclear shelter Kryt Folimanka, which is open on July 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The large complex, which can hold up to 1,300 people, sprawls under the hillside at Folimanka park. Visitors are able to wander around freely, and address questions to Prague District Office employees or any volunteer workers inside, who speak Czech, Slovak, English, and Russian. The entrance is free of charge.

Explore the love affair between fashion and art

From July 15 to Nov. 5, Kampa Museum's new exhibit The Paradox of Fashion: Fashion versus Art explores the contradictory nature of fashion. Fashion both conceals and reveals, stirs emotions yet creates barriers, straddling the surface while hinting at depth. This exhibition showcases fashion artifacts primarily from the 1960s, sourced from the Alexandre Vassiljev Foundation collection in Kaunas, Lithuania, and juxtaposed with artworks from the museum's collections. 

Listen to Billy Bob Thornton or an explosive jungle mix

On July 14, the Zooblasters, a collective of experienced Prague musicians, will take their mix of hip-hop, drum'n'bass, reggae, and Balkan music to the Cross Club. If you’re in the mood for something else, Hollywood actor Billy Bob Thornton will be performing his songs, which are a mix of rock and roll, rockabilly, and country at the Futurum Music Bar on July 16 together with The Boxmasters, and Bubbles & The Sh!trockers as special guests.

Eat grilled fish by the pool

Beat the heat and enjoy a fish-and-seafood grill at Biotop Radotín on July 14. The dishes feature king sea bream, rainbow trout, sea wolf, calamari, and king prawns. Additionally, the natural swimming pool Biotop Radotín, conveniently located near a bike path along the Vltava, is perfect for a dip, and shares space with a resort and bar. 

Celebrate Bastille Day with authentic food from French regions

Starting Thursday, July 13, and until Sunday, July 16, Troja Castle will host the 16th edition of Prague's French Market. This year's market will present a total of 39 exhibitors and producers of French regional specialties daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (during the weekend from 10 a.m.). Traditional French delicacies on offer range from oysters, snails from Bourgogne, frog legs, a selection of regional cheeses, hams, cured sausages, duck, and foie gras, as well as pastries and desserts. Head to TEDxPragueED 2023 for expert takes on learning

On July 14, TEDxPrague 2023 comes to the DOX art gallery with a variety of speakers, ranging from artist Eva Nečasová, teacher and fraternal priest Jan Hábl, psychotherapist and scientist Peter Winnette, and many others. The topic of the session is continuous learning, and how to turn it into a meaningful process. The event will be held in Czech and English, with interpreters on site.
