Prague’s thriving urban gardening scene gets a new member this summer; visitors are also invited to do some hammock knitting and yoga

Prague’s Libeň neighborhood is a community on the rise, known for its functionalist buildings, literary associations, and waterfront views. A newly opened community garden in lower Libeň is continuing the spirit of revitalization in the area.

Kotlaska community center and garden were founded by Rubikon a non-profit organization that works to reintegrate criminals into society.

Easter in Prague 2025: Best brunches, events, and family-friendly things to do

The garden opened in late June and, so far, beds are populated by about a dozen people with upwards of twenty more spots available to green-thumbs who will find asters, carnations, succulents, tomatoes, and kohlrabi flourishing in this 4,000 m² green space just a short walk from the Palmovka metro station.

According to the Prague 8 district website, other activities are planned as well: knitting hammocks, regular yoga in the garden, and a meruňkobrani—a celebration of the apricot harvest.

A spokesperson from Kotlaska adds that regular events will be taking place including gardening workshops, open-air theater performances, and exhibitions. An upcoming flea market is also planned for July 24.
