The Garden Party, August 2

Prague Pride, August 11-17
The line-up for this year’s Prague Pride is indeed colourful. From theatre, films, sports, talks, and parties to the two main pillars of the whole event – the parade and Pet Shop Boys on Wednesday.

Rockabilly CZ Rumble, August 2
You may be surprised by how many really great rockabilly bands the Czech Republic has given birth to. We are simply one big nation of SKA, punk, and rockabilly fans. This festival in a beautiful natural amphitheatre is proof.

Only Open Air Festival, August 8
12 hours packed with electronic music ruled and crowned by Calvin Harris. Pretty killer way to kickstart the festival’s first year.

Blink 182, August 15
Since Marylin Manson’s death show is sold out and not even hard-core make-up will help you get in, don’t miss another 1990s super group, Blink-182, brought to you by Rock for People promoters and Conspiracy Agency to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival.

Festival BROD, August 23
Those of you who have been in the Czech Republic might know that Rock for People has not always taken place in Hradec Králové. The cradle of the festival is Český Brod which will celebrate its child’s birthday (AGAIN!) with a new festival hosting important Czech music names.

Kryštof Kemp, August 30
One of the most famous Czech bands Kryštof has started to organizing its own 1-day festival. The festival will move around the Republic and the only engagement not yet sold out is August 30th in Plzeň.

Dyzajn Market Festival, August 1-2
The big news is: Dyzajn Market will last for 2 whole days. Not only can you shop for Czech designers’ products, but you can see Czech bands for free as well! Line-up picks: Yellow Sisters, Vladivojna La Chia, Kazety.

Ibérica, August 11-16
Four-day-long festival of Spanish culture will peek into four Czech towns – Boskovice (the local castle), Brno, and Prague. Every evening offers Spanish dancers accompanied by musicians.

Noir Film Festival, August 21-24
Always a film genre that has been difficult to define, noir typically refers to the Hollywood crime dramas of the ’40s and ’50s. For a clearer definition, visit the first-ever festival of noir in Prague with genre-bending categories like boxing noir, docu-noir, Czech noir, and British noir.

Prague Shakuhachi Festival, August 22-26
It’s all about Japan. The promoters even claims to be the largest festival of Japanese contemporary music outside Japan. What an honour for Prague! Besides, it’s not just music, but also lectures, masterclasses, and jam sessions.

Pražský Jarmark, August 26-31
You might have already noticed I love folklore. I simply believe it can be very enriching. The international folklore festival loosely translated as “Prague Fair” will bring you folklore groups from Czech Republic and the whole world. What’s more – it’s free!

Colourful Prague 9, August 30

Živá ulice/Vivid Street, August 11-17
Beware of this festival taking place in Plzeň! And, as the title’s translation suggests, it is all about streets and theatre in streets and music in streets and arts in street and people in between.

Letní Letná, August 17-September 2
Guiding us through the end of summer, this offbeat summer festival will occupy Letná park for more than 2 weeks with the best that the new-age circus and theatre scene has to offer. Highly recommended.

SPORTS

Water Wars, August 2
We have experienced pillow fights, group freezings, and flash mobs in Prague, but as far as I know, we have not had a water battle yet. Get your water pistols ready, wear swimsuits or raincoats, and fire away!

High Jump, August 1-2
If you ever decide to jump from a 10m high springboard, be careful not to look down and crush your nose on the water’s surface. Or just play it safe and watch as a spectator: this never happens to the brave guys who compete in this high-dive competition.

Czech Freestyle Championship, August 2
This is my coming out… I can’t play football and I don’t even like watching it. (Kill me.) But this is something different. First of all, it’s for free, second – it’s football magic 😉

World Yo-Yo Contest, August 7-9
For the first time in history, the championship has moved out of the US. More then 1,000 players (seriously?) from over 30 countries will kick ass with a… yo-yo.

Chillichilling, August 2
Starring: chilli. Do you have a mouth made of metal? Compete in a chilli contest! After burning your intestines, chill with some music or watch Czech famous director Švankmajer’s short films.

Teafest, August 24
Hard times pronouncing the event’s name in Czech (Čajomírfest), great time tasting tea from all around the world by pros and amateurs in the beautiful area of Vyšehrad. You can even set up your own tearoom there.

F.O.O.D. picnic, August 30
The last Saturday of August will host another picnic sponsored by another large Czech food magazine (after Apetit’s in June). The gastro feast will anchor in Ladronka park where famous chef Zdeněk Pohlreich will perform his kitchen magic together with another 40 food stalls.

MISC

Czech Crucial Dates, August 19-26
Your countries went through a lot, our country as well. A few of the crucial years (1945, 1968, 1969, 1989) will be visible again in more than 60 photographs in the Prague’s Czech Centre.

Prague Harley Days, August 29-30
You can join the outdoor part of this program for free (stunt shows, HD parade or pole dance battles) and pay for the indoor concerts of Arakain or Tublatanka (classic!)

Prague Car Festival, August 30-31
Motorbikes (Holešovice Expo) are followed by cars at the Letňany Expo. You will see curious vehicles, fashion catwalks, or dancers. Of course, you will be able to take a selfie with a beautiful car and a woman.
