Turkey time: Where to eat Thanksgiving dinner in Prague in 2023

Order turkey with all the trimmings for a festive dine-in meal at these Prague restaurants, or to take home. Plus tips for where to shop for staples.

Chomping at the heels of a different seasonal feast, St. Martin's Day, American Thanksgiving offers another excuse to loosen your waistband in the name of tradition this November. Thanksgiving 2023 brings with it a cornucopia of dining options in Prague as well as options to pick up turkey and all the trimmings for homebodies.

All of the events mentioned here take place on Thursday, Nov. 23 unless otherwise indicated. In most cases, supplies are limited so make sure to book if you don't plan to cook!

Sit-down dinners

Cotto Crudo Restaurant at The Four Seasons does Thanksgiving with an elegant, modern twist compliments of Executive Sous Chef Nicholas Trosien who draws inspiration from his roots and memories of festive family gatherings. The three-course menu of scallop 'in the shell' en croute, roast turkey roulade, and pecan pie (CZK 1,850) can be reserved at +420 221 426 880.

The Globe Bookstore and Cafe's Thanksgiving Day Feast is another annual favorite for expats. A set menu features pumpkin cream soup, turkey with apple sage stuffing, and for desserts pumpkin chiffon or apple pie. The cost is CZK 825 per person (kid's portions are CZK 525). Reserve at reservations@globebookstore.cz.

For home preparations

  • Order canned pumpkin and cranberry sauce via The Candy Store.
  • Farm-fresh whole turkeys or individual parts can be delivered and picked up throughout Prague and Central Bohemia via the Prominent CZ network. Turkeys are free-range and raised near Liberec.

Hard Rock Cafe's Celebrate Thanksgiving event serves up a limited-time two-course traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings and an acoustic live performance by Jamie Marshall. Table bookings are now being accepted online.

 Jáma Garden Pub is serving up a starter of macaroni and cheese and a main of roasted herbed turkey paired with sweet potato fries or mashed potatoes. Finish with pumpkin pie (price is CZK 650 per person).

Max's Steakhouse celebrates Thanksgiving with a classic feast including corn chowder, turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, honey-glazed ham, bacon-infused green beans, and homemade pumpkin pie. Three courses are 835 CZK. Make reservations (with a deposit) at +420 734 571 287.

The Twisted Fig Bistro in Karlín is opening its theater for a three-course dinner served "long-table style." Lending to the authenticity of the experience, the bistro will also screen the Packers/Lions game, a Thanksgiving tradition. Carrot ginger soup, turkey with sage stuffing, honey-roasted root vegetables, brussels sprouts with bacon, and cranberry sauce are on the menu plus a vegetarian-friendly option of marinated cauliflower steak. Capacity is limited to 50 people.

Pick-up options

Manifesto Anděl's annual Thanksgiving feast is powered by Dirty Dog Southern Smokehouse's bold menu of smoked turkey, cranberry sauce, sausage cornbread stuffing, and chipotle honey-glazed sweet potatoes. Priced at 795 CZK per person, early reservation is recommended via email at andel@dirtydog.eu. Eat-in or pick-up options available.

Take Eat EZ - American Barbecue & Deli is selling whole turkey traditionally brined in a citrusy-herb brine, stuffed with lemon, and fire-roasted to perfection in its Southern Pride smoker. Half turkey and skinless, boneless breast options are also available, delivered chilled and ready for reheating. Place orders by Nov.15 to pick up at its kitchen on Nov. 22, 23, or 24. A variety of classic Thanksgiving side dishes is newly available this year including sweet potato marshmallow casserole, green bean casserole, Hawaiian dinner rolls, and pastrami and rye stuffing.

Entertainment with all the fixings

If you're starved for culture this Thanksgiving season, Prague Shakespeare Company presents The Thanksgiving Play by Larissa FastHorse, a satirical comedy in English. The play run at Divadlo Na Pradle on Nov. 23, 24, 27, and Dec. 1 and 2, and explores the clash of good intentions and absurd assumptions as a group of "woke" artists creates a Thanksgiving pageant.
