The ball of fluff, who is currently with a foster family, became the Cool Critters animal shelter's first find of the year.

Popular wisdom says that you don't choose a cat, a cat chooses you. In the case of a kind-hearted passenger riding tram no. 1 on Jan. 1, the karmic agent was a light gray kitten, small enough to comfortably fit inside her jacket.

A video posted to Facebook later that day shows the sleepy head of the light gray kitten, dotted by a pink nose, poking out of its benefactor's winter jacket. Despite the surrounding noise, the kitten looks happy and relaxed, as its rescuer strokes its ears.

Close encounters of the cat kind

The Facebook post accompanying the heart-warming video says that the passenger ran into "two very drunk homeless young guys holding a tiny tiny kitten in their coat" on tram no. 1 on New Year's Day.

As they were exiting the tram, the person offered them CZK 400, all the money in her wallet, in exchange for the kitten. One of the men said the kitten came from a "not good situation," while adding, "he picked the prettiest kitten."

It's a boy!

A Facebook post from Jan. 2 says that a visit to a veterinarian revealed that the kitten is male, weighs 980 grams, and is around nine weeks old. "He is now safe, he is in a warm place and he has a wonderful new foster family to take care of him until he is ready to find his new home," the post from Cool Critters read. Last but not least, the kitten was named Chance, a nod to Lady Luck smiling at him on the first day of the year.
