Heading out to popular seasonal destination Máchovo jezero this summer?

Wildlife cameras from the Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape (Agentury ochrany přírody a krajiny ČR) recently captured four wolf cubs in the area, by the Břehyně – Pecopala reserve.

“Several dozen recordings show one to four pups,” the Agency’s Luboš Bera told Reflex.cz.

“These are clearly much younger than their siblings captured by photo traps in previous years.”

While at least seven different wolves have been spotted in the area over the past two years, this number didn’t include the four cubs.

That would seem to indicate that at least eleven wolves are now in the region, and the number might be growing after successful reproduction.

The area is monitored by wildlife preservation groups to help protect the wolves from poachers, according to Reflex.cz

Last autumn, one wolf was found dead in Kokořín, presumably as a result of human interaction.
