The problem is particularly noticeable in Prague 3; in fact, the area is such a minefield that many residents have taken to calling it “Šiškov” (Šiška being Czech slang for poo).
In a bid for cleaner pavements and lawns, Prague 3 city officials recently announced that they will be taking increased action against the area’s ongoing poo problem.
The anti-poo plan commences with a March poll designed to detect areas where poo bags and containers are missing and where Žižkov residents would appreciate their increased availability.
Prague 3 mayor Jiří Ptáček (TOP09) also says irresponsible pet owners could be hit with stricter penalties, to the tune of up to 2,000 CZK, for leaving a pile on the sidewalk or grass.
“The city police leadership has promised us help,” Ptáček wrote in a recent Facebook post.
In addition to more bins and bags, Prague 3 officials say they’ll also up their street-cleaning efforts.
