420 PEOPLE presents its new programme, including the newest piece by choreographer Ohad Naharin

The contemporary dance company 420PEOPLE is introducing a completely new performance for the 2008-2009 season. The premiere will take place on Sunday, December 7 at Archa Theatre, featuring principle dancers Nataša Novotná and Václav Kuneš. The evening´s programme will consist of four new pieces, including a completely new duet by world-renowned Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. Nataša Novotná and Rei Watanabe will perform Bolero.

Václav Kuneš presents two new pieces. One of these is the duet On an Even Keel, which was created in collaboration with the Dutch Korzo Theatre. The choreography of this piece is part of a trilogy begun in last year´s Small Hour, which garnered accolades on the local scene with a nomination for a Sazka Award at the Tanec Praha Festival, as well as international acclaim, being selected to the DansClick programme, a two-month tour of the Netherlands.

In his new piece Golden Crock, Kuneš worked mainly with guest dancers. The dynamic trio includes Francesco Nappa, until recently a soloist at the Monte Carlo Ballet. The premiere of the solo piece 5 Steps to You will be danced by Tomáš Rychetský, a member of Prague´s National Theatre.

420 PEOPLE is also organizing debates and workshops as an accompaniment to the performance. A workshop for professional dancers and students of dance will be held on December 4 and 5 under the personal guidance of Ohad Naharin, who will introduce his movement method-language called GAGA.

Archa Theatre will also be the scene for an exhibition of works by Francesco Nappa.

Nataša Novotná
After graduating from the Janáček conservatory in Ostrava, in 1997 Novotna gained a place in the Dutch junior Nederlands Dans Theatre 2 company under the direction of Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián.

From 2000 – 2002, she worked for the Swedish Göteborgse Ballet company, where among others she garnered accolades as Juliette in the performance of Romeo & Juliette by M. Müller. In the summer of 2002, she returned to the Netherlands, where she became a member of the Nederlands Dans Theatre 1. Until 2006, she worked with the leading choreographers in the world. Dutch critics twice nominated her as the Best Dancer. She was been working “freelance” since last year, collaborating among others with Finnish choreographer Tero Saarinen, soloist at Italy´s La Scala Robert Boll, Sabur Teshigawara from Japan, the Copenhagen International Ballet and with the Dutch C-scope project. Together with Václav Kuneš and Ondřej Kotrč she created the dance company 420people. She also teaches.

Václav Kuneš
Vaclav Kuneš is one of the most successful Czech dancers living abroad. After graduating from the Prague dance conservatory in 1993, he left for the Netherlands and became of member of the Nederlands Dans Theater 2. In 1998, he moved to NDT 1 under the guidance of Jiří Kylián, where he danced until 2004. He has collaborated with a number of leading choreographers, among them William Forsyth, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot and others. Since 2004, he has been performing as an independent dancers and choreographer. In 2005 and 2006, he collaborated with Sabur Teshigawara and his group Karas in the New National Theater in Tokyo. In 2005, he was nominated for the award of Dancer of the Year in Cannes. He interpreted the roles of a young Nijinsky in the Finnish dance film Vaslav Nijinsky – Invisible Power. As a choreographer he has created several pieces for the Nederlands Dans Theater 2, the Copenhagen International Ballet, Laterna Magika in Prague, the Korzo Theater Den Haag and Station Zuid in the Netherlands. Since 2004 he has also been working as an assistant to Jiří Kylián.
