#1 Students head back to school across Czechia

The majority of children in state schools across Czechia go back to school on Monday, Sept. 2. Dates may differ for private schools. Many schools hold a třídní schůzka (a meeting for parents with the classroom teacher) during the first or second week of school. Universities in Czechia will have different start dates, depending on their schedules and faculties. Schoolchildren will have their first day off (during the Monday-Friday week) in late October.

#2 Celebrate Indian cuisine at Anděl

The Experience India Festival will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at the Anděl pedestrian zone in Prague. Running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the event showcases a wide array of Indian cuisine, including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, as well as authentic Indian tea and coffee. Attendees can also enjoy cultural performances, explore Ayurveda and yoga, and experience traditional Indian crafts and attire. The event is free to attend.

#3 Catch a free Ukrainian documentary with English subtitles

Prague's Edison Filmhub will screen the Ukrainian documentary Bring Me Back Home on Sept. 4 from 6:30 p.m. The film, directed by Mariana Sych and Nazar Pytel, details the plight of Ukrainian prisoners deported to Russia and their harrowing experiences attempting to return home. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with Sych, Nadiia Ivanova from People in Need, and moderator Tomáš Brolík. The event is free to attend and the film will be presented with English subtitles.

#4 Czech Design Week returns to two Prague locations

The 11th edition of Czech Design Week will take place from Sept. 5 to 8 at two locations in Prague: the Mánes Exhibition Hall and Clam-Gallas Palace. The event will showcase the latest collections from hundreds of Czech and international designers, brands, and studios. A special New Generation exhibition at Clam-Gallas Palace will highlight emerging young talents in design and art. The festival will also feature daily lectures and discussions on topics like artificial intelligence and art investment.

#5 Try Czech beers from small breweries in Dejvice

The 6th annual Festival of Small Breweries at Kulaťák will take place on Sept. 7 at Vítězné náměstí in Prague 6. The event will feature over 20 small breweries, including newcomers like Pivovar Polička and Pivovar Pacov. Attendees can enjoy a wide selection of beers, street food, and live music performances from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The festival is part of the regular Saturday farmers market, with free entry for all.
