Prague will soon host its first-ever exhibition devoted solely to confectionery and baking at the Prague Sweet Festival 2024. From Nov. 21-23, PVA EXPO in Prague 9 will be transformed into a hub for confectionery and bakery enthusiasts, as they indulge in three days of treats, competitions, and talks.

The festival, which is open to the general public, promises a diverse program that includes confectionery shows, talks (mostly in Czech), tastings, and competitions. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet renowned bakers and pastry chefs such as Veronika Besky, Mirka van Gils and Vojta Vrtiška, as well as amateur confectioners and bakers. Notably, Besky won the prestigious MasterChef Czech Republic 2021 competition.

According to festival organizers, visitors can expect to discover popular pastry shops and taste a wide range of delectable specialties from dozens of Czech and foreign exhibitors. From chocolates to macaroons, luxury desserts to coffee, there will be something for every palate, organizers have said.

Attendees can also see the various ways in which chocolate and other types of confectionary are made, with generous samples included.

A basic ticket costs CZK 200 in advance and CZK 250 on the spot, while student and pensioner tickets are CZK 150 in advance and CZK 200 at the venue. Children under 140 centimeters tall can enter for free, and there is also a group student ticket option for CZK 80 per person per day for groups of 10 or more people.

Families with children and students can look forward to competitions with prizes – examples include a gingerbread competition and children's cake of the year prize. Adults can enjoy pastry shows and discussions with their favorite personalities. The festival will be moderated by the well-known trio of confectionary and food experts Markéta Hrubešová, Petr Říbal, and Lukáš Hejlik.

The event will have a program dedicated for professionals on Thursday Nov. 21, for schools on Friday, and for the general public on Saturday.

Prague is no stranger to sweet things. Indeed, this month the city will host the (unaffiliated) 2024 Chocolate Festival between Oct. 18 and Oct. 20. The Czech capital also hosts an annual Ice Cream Festival every summer at Výstaviště, in Prague 7.
