Prague foodies are in for a treat, as popular Brno breakfast spot Eggo will be operating in Karlín for the next year, bringing some comfort food to the Czech capital's bustling business district. A unique collaboration will see the Brno brand transform local chicken joint Kro Karlín into a new breakfast and brunch concept.

Eggo, which started in Brno as a food truck in 2018 before moving to a permanent location in the city center, has become a local legend for breakfast enthusiasts. Their rotating menu has included classics like omelets, but the venue has become best-known for its breakfast sandwiches.

The collaboration combines the best of Kro’s gastronomic expertise and Eggo’s renowned breakfast dishes in a special year-long project. The new concept has launched in full at Kro's location on Sokolovská Street, which is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

“We’re offering the best of both worlds here,” Kro Kitchen's Vojta Václavík and Eggo's Ronald Winkler told CzechCrunch in a recent interview.

Václavík, known for his successful Kro restaurants across Prague’s Vinohrady, Vršovice, and Karlín districts, recognized the opportunity for a new concept. His establishments include the Alma restaurant and bar, which hosted Winkler’s Eggo for a brunch pop-up last year.

“It became clear to me that we needed something that could run from the morning onwards,” Václavík said. “So when I learned that Ron was looking for a place in Prague, I thought—why not team up?”

The year-long collaboration sees Eggo’s breakfast classics incorporated into Karlín’s Kro menu. The new menu offers a mix of Kro’s distinctive pickled vegetables and house-baked bread, along with Eggo’s popular specialties from local suppliers in Brno.

Dishes include smoked fish from Trnečka Smoked Fish and ice cream from Ještě jednu, alongside breakfast staples such as Eggo’s famed scrambled eggs with homemade bacon. The offerings go beyond breakfast, extending into lunch and dinner with specialties like meatballs in paprika sauce, tempeh with lentil hummus, and the iconic Kro chicken combo.

“I can’t move to Prague permanently because of my commitments in Brno, so this one-year partnership made the most sense,” Winkler said, adding that he was looking for new opportunities in addition to his Eggo location in Brno.

“We have a lot of ideas, and this is just the beginning. The question is, will one year be enough to satisfy everyone’s cravings for the Kro-Eggo experience?”
