It may not be open daily or specialize in offbeat bric-a-brac, but beginning October 1 MINT: Weekend Market, fashioning itself after London’s Camden Town, will sell the best of local artists and designers with a side of street food and attitude.

The brainchild of the people behind the seasonally-held Prague Fashion Market, the new market will expand on the offerings and frequency of its predecessor: MINT will be open every Saturday from 9:00-18:00 with a roster of vendors that will appeal to both fashionistas and foodies alike. Says market spokesperson Zuzka Kučerová: “Prague is not only a bridge and castle. In recent years, we’ve seen the rise of farmers’ markets focusing on local food and not just on the weekends. MINT: Weekend Market will be the first regular local market which not only sells food but also fashion, design, books, and homemade cosmetics.”

Holešovice, a former meat processing district, was a natural choice given its already distinctive cultural scene which includes the Jatka 78 art space, some of the city’s best Vietnamese food, and regular parties at Hall 36. The market will take place in Hall 13 which has been freshly painted for the occasion.

The market will also feature an installation from the Eat Rocks project and occasionally host workshops.

“This is considered a pilot project and by the end of the year we will see how customers react. It is possible that later we will expand our field of activity for several days,” says event organizer and founder Omri Goz. He adds, “This was really born out of bold plans to revive Holešovice.”
