Irish discount fashion chain Primark has announced plans to further expand its presence in the Czech Republic with the opening of its third store. Set to launch before Christmas 2024, the new shop will be located in the Metropole Zličín shopping center in Prague’s western suburbs. The expansion is expected to create over 150 new jobs, including positions for sales assistants and managers.

This development follows the successful openings of Primark’s initial stores in Prague and Brno. Maciej Podwojski, Director of Central and Eastern Europe for Primark, expressed enthusiasm for the new store, stating, “We’re delighted to reach another important milestone in building our team.”

The new store will cover 2,800 square meters and offer the latest fashion trends, beauty, lifestyle, and home goods. The company says that more than half of Primark's clothing is made from recycled or sustainably sourced materials, with a goal of reaching 100 percent by 2030.

A popular store in Czechia

Primark, which debuted in Prague’s Wenceslas Square in June 2021, has quickly garnered a strong following in Czechia. Retail expert Tomáš Drtina attributes the brand's success to its competitive pricing and positive word-of-mouth. The new Metropole Zličín store continues Primark’s rapid expansion, adding to its existing locations in Prague and Brno.

The Czech branches of Primark have performed well, with the brand reporting a net profit of CZK 80.8 million in the previous financial year and a 62 percent increase in sales to CZK 1.65 billion. Notably, Primark does not engage in traditional advertising, relying instead on its physical stores and word-of-mouth recommendations.

Founded in Ireland in 1969, Primark now operates over 450 stores worldwide and employs more than 80,000 people across 17 European countries and the U.S. The new store in Metropole Zličín represents another significant step in the company's ongoing expansion in the Czech market.
