The chief physician of a hospital in Pilsen has been arrested for the brutal murder of a young doctor and the assault of another woman. The rampage began on Friday evening when the 40-year-old male suspect allegedly attacked his 28-year-old colleague in her apartment.

According to a source familiar with the case, the man first tied up the doctor and then beheaded her with an ax. He then reportedly stole the victim's phone and sent a message to her employer, Pilsen University Hospital, saying she would not come to work on Saturday.

Early Sunday morning, the suspect then allegedly drove to the home of an acquaintance, a woman in her 20s, on the outskirts of Pilsen. There, he is accused of tying up, beating, raping, and attempting to strangle the woman. She lost consciousness during the assault but was eventually able to call for help after the suspect left.

"She was in such shock that she couldn't even open the door to the police. She must have experienced terrible torment," a neighbor who heard the woman's muffled cries for help told Novinky.cz.

The suspect later returned to the doctor's apartment, possibly in an attempt to cover his tracks. When emergency responders arrived, he had cut his own wrists in an apparent suicide attempt.

He was apprehended by police and taken into custody.

Criminal investigators have opened a case into the attempted murder and murder charges against the suspect, who is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision. The community in Pilsen is grappling with the horrific nature of the crimes, which have left many shaken and searching for answers.

"We are dealing with particularly serious acts of a violent nature. We will share more information later," said regional police spokeswoman Pavla Burešová.
