Outdoor ice skating rinks are opening up across Prague, though there are slightly fewer than in previous years. Most offer skate rental and refreshments, and can even sharpen your skates.

The rink at Čapadlo offers a view of Prague Castle right from the banks of the Vltava. People who are concerned about the environment can go to Střelecký ostrov. The rink there is designed to use no electricity or water, and requires minimal maintenance. Several rinks operated by the city districts have free entry, but these tend to get crowded. The ones operated by shopping malls ten do have admission fees, but they also are less crowded and offer a wider range of services.

Many rinks have confusing hours, closing for maintenance several times in the day. It's worth keeping in mind that hours for Christmas and the New Year’s holidays are often shorter than normal. Some places will be having family events close to the holidays, and those are listed on the venue’s website or Facebook page.
