The Czech capital has ranked among 100 cities with the best hospital care in the world. The ranking, compiled by British startup Medbelle, took into account not only the quality of medical care, but also its accessibility for all citizens and infrastructure in the locality.

Within the categories of infrastructure, quality of care, and access, research ranging from the quality of medical education and the number of hospital beds, to the cancer survival rate and the number of nurses was factored in.

So where did Prague turn up on the list of cities? The largest Czech metropolis just made the top 100, slipping in at number 99 above Dubai and below Krakow (#98). Tokyo came out on top, with Boston placing second, London third, Paris fourth, and Seoul rounding out the top 5.

Additionally, elements such as the cost of medicine, and the prevalence of mental health specialists were also included and utilized to score each city based on their overall hospital infrastructure, and to determine the top 100 hospital cities in the world.

Prague performed well in particular in the availability of medical care possibly reflecting the fact that the city has a number of highly specialized centers for patients. It also scored well in the areas of cost of medicine and healthcare sending but low in terms of availability of surgeons, mental health professionals and top-ranking hospitals and universities.

According to Statista, there are 258 hospitals total in the Czech Republic. Prague has six major hospitals and close to twenty smaller hospitals as well as a number of clinics that specialize in scientific and technical work.
