Prague, January 6th 2010

The second year of the festival Prague Wine Week 2010, which will take place in Prague from Monday, 18th January, till Sunday, 24th January 2010, will celebrate the art of winemakers. For the whole week, almost seventy restaurants, wine bars, wine shops, hotels and other places in the entire Prague are going to offer different wine tastings, special wine offer, menu combined with wine, bargain accommodation etc. Winemakers and wine importers will organize tastings of their wines in Prague restaurants, bars and wine shops. Prague will thus live by wine all week.

Lovers of the noblest drink – wine – will have a very interesting choice. For example, Prague Wine Week will be an ideal opportunity to attend the first and only recipient of the Michelin star in the Czech Republic and in all of Central and Eastern Europe – Allegro restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel Prague. This restaurant will prepare special Prague Wine Week lunch menu with a glass of wine, coffee and mineral water for CZK 750. Ad Vivum Riedel shop in the lobby of Slovanský dům will introduce the only decanter in the world, which is sold with a video manual – Decanter Eve, and will offer experience of really blind wine tasting from black Riedel glasses. Wine shop V&R Imports at Sokolovská street will organize daily free tasting of three interesting wines from it‘s portfolio, etc More information about all events, contacts and information about reservation are at the website www.praguewine.cz.

On 22nd January 2010 from 1 to 7 p.m. a third year of a Gala Tasting of medal wines from Prague Wine Trophy competition will take place in the historically unique monastery of Břevnov (Prague 6, Markétská 1). Last year it was attended by 1000 visitors and became one of the most prestigious wine events in Prague. Prague Wine Trophy is the biggest wine competition in Czech Republic, it complies with the criteria of European Union and it is approved by the Ministry of Agriculture of Czech Republic. Three quarters of wines are from abroad. Last year 1104 wines from the whole world entered the competition and 320 of them received medals. Most of them, together with other wines from awarded wineries, will be introduced at Gala Tasting directly by their producers or importers. Around ninety winemakers or importers will present their wines personally, thirty from them will come from abroad, from countries of four continents – Europe, North and South America and Australia, top Czech and Moravian winemakers with will personally present their wines. Entrance tickets for Gala Tasting can be purchased at Ticketpro network (http://www.ticketpro.cz/jnp/en/spolecenske-akce/gastronomie/302084-galadegustace-vin-v-brevnovskem-klastere.html). The price of the entrance ticket is CZK 1.000.

Prague Wine Week festival had been intentionally scheduled for January, when the number of guests in restaurants and bars every year drops. The organizers believe that the one, who fell for wine during the festival, will return to the wine shop or wine bar, even when the festival is over, and the owners of enterprises will realize, that, for instance, larger offer of wine served by glass can attract more guests for them. After the first year of the festival in 2009 the owners of restaurants, bars and shops confirmed that the target of the festival – to attract more customers to good wine – was made good. „Prague Wine Week has been fantastic, it´s a splendid idea! I am very pleased with the response. In our vinoteque we had one hundred and thirty new customers, who had never been here before, our turnover was by five hundred fifty per cent higher than the same week last year,“ Robert Myers, the owner of the wine shop V&R Imports stated.

The bilingual Czech-English Prague Wine Guide, where each participant – wine shops, bars, restaurants, hotels, importers and wineries – have a page with contact information, offer, opening times, photos and a review of special events, is published at the occasion of the festival and is for disposal at all participating subjects.

Organizer of the Prague Wine Trophy competition, Gala Tasting and the whole Prague Wine Week festival is Vino Revue magazine, leading wine magazine in Czech Republic, published since 2002.
