An Asian-inspired Thanksgiving in a castle, a murder mystery, or a BBQ feast; Prague restaurants are going all out this year

The American holiday Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 28 this year. Not recognized as a holiday in the Czech Republic, it can be difficult for those who work to prepare a festive spread.

Thankfully, a number of local eateries have got you covered, and for anyone looking for a particularly memorable feast, this year there’s a Thanksgiving murder mystery (taking place on Friday) and a chance to dine in a castle with an American connection, if you’re willing to travel. Reservations are highly recommended as many restaurants fill up early.

The priciest option is Savoia Castle, which comes to 1,200 CZK with a shuttle bus included. It promises the most daring menu, an Asian fusion take on the traditional meal. “This year we decided to try something different, so we are bringing you a specially crafted Asian-inspired menu from the talented chef Andrea Sirtori who you might know from the Sansho and Taro restaurants in Prague,” the organizers said.

For those who want to celebrate at home, cooked turkey and trimmings can be delivered to your door by Culinaria. Take out is available all day from the Globe Bookstore and Cafe, for those who want to take a meal home or back to the office.

New to the local Thanksgiving festivities this year is Cali Brothers, taking the place of the now shuttered Bohemia Bagel, which had the same owners.

Old standbys include the Globe Bookstore and Jama. The latter is serving Thanksgiving for the 25th time. In recent years several new places have joined in, adding to the options.

Free-range turkey can be found at Chickin restaurant, which is also the cheapest at 355 CZK. For bio turkey, U Kurelů has two menus with turkey from Farma Nový Dvůr Kořínkovi.

Vegetarian options are at Chickin, California Republic, and U Kurelů, but you can ask other venues if they can accommodate special needs or requests.

Hard Rock Cafe will offer live music after 8 pm, followed by a DJ. In true Thanksgiving fashion, Jama will have sports on TV.

Mississippi Grill Prague will serve a Southern-style Thanksgiving with side dishes of sweet potato casserole and macaroni and cheese from Thursday to Sunday.
