The Czech Republic ranks 16th in the EU in ratio of coronavirus cases to population, 7th in tests conducted

The Czech Republic is 16th in the EU in the number of coronavirus cases per million inhabitants, and seventh in the number of tested samples per million people

Prague, March 30 (CTK) – The Czech Republic is 16th in the EU in the number of coronavirus cases per million inhabitants, and seventh in the number of tested samples per million people, according to data on the new website launched by the National Agency for Communication and Information Technologies (NAKIT).

According to the website, which NAKIT launched together with the Digital Czechia program, the proportion of the number of the cases to the population size is the highest in Luxembourg, followed by Spain and Italy, and the lowest in Poland and Hungary.

The web makes it possible to compare individual EU states based on ten different indicators.

In Czechia, the number of coronavirus cases per one million inhabitants stands at 265 now.

The “leader” in this respect is Luxembourg, a country with the population of 500,000, which has 3,115 cases per million inhabitants.

Fifty-five-million Spain follows with 1,713 cases per million inhabitants, and 60-million Italy with 1,616 cases.

Slovakia, Poland and Hungary have the smallest number of cases per million inhabitants, about 50 each.

As far as the number of tested samples per one million people is concerned, the 10.7-million Czechia is seventh in the EU, with 4,062 tests.

In this respect, Slovenia is the leader with almost 10,000 tests per million inhabitants, followed by Estonia, Latvia, Italy, Germany and Austria.

As for the number of the coronavirus patients’ deaths per one million inhabitants, the proportion is the highest, 178, in Italy, and the second highest, 146, in Spain.

In no other EU country does this proportion exceed 50.

The Czech Republic, with two deaths per one million inhabitants, shares the 20th position together with Estonia, Romania, Finland and Hungary.

In the number of recovered patients, Czechia, which has 11 such patients, is in the 18th position, after Cyprus (15) and before Finland and Slovenia (10 each). The number of recovered patients is the highest in Spain (16,780) and Italy (13,030).

As for the number of severe COVID-19 cases, the Czech Republic is 13th in the EU, with 52 such cases.

In the whole world, Czechia is 38th with its number of cases per million inhabitants, 14th with its number of tests per million inhabitants, and 46th in the number of victims per million inhabitants.

The information on the website, except for the number of tested samples, has been updated eight times a day, once in every two hours. It leans on more sources, according to their quality.

The Czech data are based on the statistics of the Czech Institute for Health Information and Statistics (UZIS), the world data on the figures provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other sources.

According to the latest UZIS data, there are 2,878 confirmed coronavirus cases in Czechia at present, eleven patients have recovered and 17 died. The number of performed tests is almost 43,500.
