The world-famous contemporary circus Cirque du Soleil returns to the Czech Republic in 2023. The Montreal-based act will bring its celebrated "Ovo" performance to Prague's O2 arena in May of next year for a seven-show run of performances.

The high-octane acrobatic show, which offers audiences surreal insights into the world of insects, has been staged around the world for thirteen years.

“'Ovo' is a colorful foray into a new day in the life of an insect; a continuous jumble of energy and movement. Through captivating acrobatics that highlight the unique personalities and abilities of selected insect species, 'Ovo' explores the beauty of biodiversity in all its contrast and vibrancy," the circus writes in a press release.

From massive crickets bouncing off trampolines to a hypnotic spider twisting in its web, the show features colorful characters and impressive acrobatics. One hundred acrobats from twenty-five different countries will transform into butterflies, red ants, fleas, fireflies, and dragonflies.

"Ovo," Portuguese for "egg," was first staged in 2009 and has thrilled more than 7 million people in 155 cities in 26 different countries. It was created by Cirque du Soleil for the company's 25th anniversary. Brazilian director and composer Berna Ceppas combines bossa nova and samba with funk and electro music, as well as real insect sounds.

Cirque du Soleil has redefined how the world perceives the circus. Started in Quebec in the 1980s by a group of street performers, the Canadian organization has become a global leader in live entertainment by creating world-class immersive and iconic experiences across 6 continents.
