This unconventional solution to the craft beer boom is the brain child of Prague-based company Well Service. Under the Smart Brewery brand, the mobile brewery innovators are hoping to make their “box” beer solution a hit at home and abroad.
According to reports from iDnes.cz, one mobile unit has already been sold to a customer in Prague’s Chuchle district who will begin brewing beer from September. Delivery to Russia, China, Sardinia, and Tanzania is currently under negotiations.
The brewery can easily be transported by truck, boat, or rail and can produce 525 hectoliters of beer per year.
“Our mobile Smart Brewery contains all of the technology required for the brewing, fermentation, maturation, and packaging of any beer style,” says a company spokesperson.
Adding, “You can make traditional, bottom-fermented, unfiltered, unpasteurised Czech lagers, pale and dark, as well as the ale, stout, and wheat beer styles, or variously flavoured beers.”
The idea of a Czech container brewery is apparently not an entirely new concept.
In its article on the tiny brewery phenomenon, iDnes.cz reports that even before 1989, similar operations were brought from the Czech Republic to the Soviet Union where beer was brewed for workers in Siberia.
