No idea where to take the children on a trip? If the weather outside is fine, it’s relatively easy to think of something. But when the rain comes down it can be a nightmare. So we have come with 10 ideas to give you a bit of inspiration – fun parks and interactive museums, exhibitions based on fairytales and ghost stories and educational programmes where neither you nor your children will feel the pangs of boredom.

1. Memories of the MERKUR construction…
Visit a unique museum that charts the past and present of the best-known Czech toy – the MERKUR construction set.

2. Visit iQpark – an amusement and getting to know centre
Here, you can find dozens of interactive, playful, entertaining, and educational exhibits from the sphere of human life.

3. Interactive Puppet Museum in Pilsen
House 23 on Pilsen’s main square has been rebuilt into a modern museum containing around 300 puppets. The oldest of these date from around 1830, the largest is over two metres tall.

4. The king of model railways at Prague Smíchov
At Prague-Smíchov’s Anděl City mall you can now see one of the most enthralling projects of recent years. Three floors measuring 2500 m2 are now given over to a model railway, the first 115 m2 already having been laid. Every three months new sections will be added. The king of all model railways will one day grow into a 3D railway map of the entire Czech Republic.

5. Children’s Entertainment Centre Jojo Park in Ostrava

A permanent exhibition of the works of Josef Lada – painter and writer, caricaturist, creator of fairy tale characters known by children from earliest childhood, and the illustrator who unforgettably interpreted Jaroslav Hašek’s character, Švejk. Guided tours provided.

9. Time Exhibition at Šternberk
The Time Exhibition traces the 14-billion-year story of Time from the Big Bang to the atomic clock. Contributions from over 20 Czech and overseas museums have gone into creating the unique exhibits and interactive programmes here. Come and have fun and learn something in the process. You’ll find that Time speeds up when you’re having fun at Šternberk’s Time Exhibition.

10. A Return to Traditional Ways – exciting activities at the museum in Horažďovice
Make your very own wooden spoon or try your hand at working a spinning wheel. All this is possible at the newly opened interactive workshop called „A Return to Traditional Ways“ located within the Horažďovice Municipal Museum. Here visitors can try for themselves some of the everyday activities you would have found in every village a century or more ago.

Techmania is an interactive museum, with answers to all sorts of questions – what happens when you touch 200,000 volts, how can you see the invisible made visible, how has nature has inspired us….
