Dig into Czech design history

The Identity project encompasses a documentary film, an exhibit at Prague's Museum Kampa, and a book devoted to over a hundred years of Czech visual mastery, on a journey that spans New York to Prague and the far corners of Bohemia and Moravia.

Dec. 2 sees the launch of the English translation of the book. Open to the public, The Identity Project English Night is accompanied by a film screening, guided tour, and talk with the translators at Kampa, all in English. The exhibit, covering three floors of the museum, is open until Feb. 2, 2025

Start the week off with a good deed

On the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving (Dec. 3 this year), Czechia celebrates Giving Tuesday to give back to those who need it most. You can get involved in many ways, such as by helping the homeless, volunteering at hospices, or donating gifts that go directly to the needy. A full list of registered help and donation information is available on the official website.

Head into the holidays with some devilish fun

St. Mikuláš (St. Nicholas) will visit children throughout Czechia as part of St. Nicholas Day celebrations on Thursday, Dec. 5. Prague will see several public events where children get a sweet treat or a lump of coal, depending on whether they have been naughty or nice this year. The upper part of Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square will have festive events, as will Malostranské náměstí.

Hop a festive tram on your way to work

Prague’s Public Transport Company (DPP) rolls out its illuminated trams and buses from Nov. 30 to Jan. 6. Nine decorated vehicles, including two new T3R.P trams, feature 32,000 lights, and, newly this year, will play Czech Christmas carols on board. The festive fleet operates across the city. See the full schedule here. DPP also debuts decorations at Křižíkova metro station and hosts holiday events like Christmas concerts, historic train rides, and the annual Bethlehem Light tram throughout the season.

Grab an award-winning cup of coffee

European Coffee Trip (ECT) has announced the winners of its 2024 awards, celebrating ten outstanding specialty coffee shops in Czechia. Over 5,750 users of ECT's app voted, nominating up to three favorite cafes. Prague, Brno, and České Budějovice led the Czech list, with five Prague cafes featured. See which cafes made the list and fuel up with an award-winning cup this wintery morning.
