If you’re looking to score a bargain before Christmas and save money before Black Friday next month, online retailer Amazon is holding its October Prime Day between Oct. 8-9. Customers in Czechia can take advantage of Prime Day via the German Amazon site (Amazon.de).

What to know before clicking buy

Like the temptation to shop for groceries in Poland, Czech consumers have long been able to access German Amazon’s sometimes deep discounts. However, to qualify for free delivery to the Czech Republic, customers must spend over EUR 49 (approximately CZK 1,250) or hold a Prime subscription from Amazon for roughly 9 EUR a month.

The good news is that consumers can access the Prime Day deals by signing up for a 30-day free trial that can be cancelled anytime.

What to know before you shop

There are still some things to watch out for when shopping on German Amazon from Czechia. Most importantly, prices are listed in euros. (Make sure to factor in the current exchange rate of CZK 25.33 for EUR 1).

Also avoid opting for payment in crowns when placing your order, as doing so subjects you to a much less favorable exchange rate than paying in euros.

Additionally, after you enter your Czech address, prices will increase by 2 percentage points due to the difference between Germany’s 19 percent value-added tax and Czechia’s 21 percent.

You might also want to shop around, as local e-shops are also offering deals to compete with Amazon, though experts say it might be harder to find discounts as big as 40-50 percent.

What should you look for this year?

According to the German publication Stern, Prime Deal Days 2024 will offer Apple products at reduced prices this year. AirPods, MacBooks, and iPhones are anticipated to be heavily discounted.

Of course, Amazon will offer deals on its hardware as well; prices for Fire TV Sticks and Fire TV Cubes have already been reduced. An Amazon Echo Dot is down from EUR 64.99 to EUR 22.99, as are home security devices.

Other household appliance and electronics reductions include brands like Samsung, Siemens, Lenovo, Philips, Bosch, LG, Garmin, and Sony; all product categories will be represented during the promotion, including air fryers, hand-mixers, and coffee machines.

The size of discounts during the Prime Deal Days in 2024 are expected to be similar to those offered last year.

While the selection of products may be slightly smaller compared to the original Prime Day, Business Insider predicts that the average discount rates still remain worth checking out from Czechia.
