Deadline reports that Carey Mulligan has joined Adam Sandler in the cast of the Netflix film "Spaceman," formerly known as Spaceman of Bohemia

Mulligan, the best actress nominee known for her role in the Oscar-nominated film "Promising Young Woman," will reportedly be playing Sandler’s character's wife.

The film is based on Czech-American author Jaroslav Kalfař’s novel Spaceman of Bohemia, which tells the story of the Czech Republic’s first astronaut Jakub Procházka as he travels to the edge of the galaxy and the adventures and trials he faces on his journey.

In the book Procházka, who is sent on an 18-month solo mission to a cloud of intergalactic dust called Chopra becomes friends with an ancient alien named Hanuš. The space creature is the only entity he can talk to as his relationships on earth start to crumble.

Kalfar, whose family emigrated to the US when he was 15, is one of the latest Czech authors to have their books adapted to film in the international market, and Mulligan’s casting adds starpower to the film alongside Sandler, showing a potentially bright future for Czech adaptations for the silver screen.

Mulligan’s previous TV and film roles include Cassie Thomas in "Promising Young Woman," Det. Inspector Kip Glaspie in "Collateral," Daisy Buchanan in "The Great Gatsby." She also recently had her Saturday Night Live debut alongside Kid Cudi.

The film will be produced by Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan and Michael Parets for Free Association. It’s current release date is unknown.

Other Czech novels that have been successfully adapted for films include Milan Kundera's Unbearable Lightness of Being or Kafka's The Trial.
