If you’re a driver in Czechia, chances are you need a highway stamp (otherwise known as a vignette). This authorizes you to drive on Czechia’s main highways and routes with your vehicle. The start of this year saw prices jump markedly in price. But on which exact roads and highways do you need one in Czechia? Here is everything you need to know.
Who needs a highway pass?
If you want to drive through the toll sections of the country’s main highways and have a four-wheeled vehicle weighing under 3 tons, you will need a pass. Unfortunately, this applies to most sections of the country’s major D-labeled highways.
A driver found to be on a toll road without a valid electronic vignette (without being exempt) faces a fine of up to CZK 20,000.
Where exactly do you need one?
The Czech highway network spans over 1,500 kilometers, with 1,206 kilometers requiring an electronic vignette. You need them on all major Czech highways, including the D0, D1 (Prague-Brno-Ostrava), D2 (Brno-Slovakia border), D5 (Prague-Plzeň-Germany border), and the D11 (Prague-Hradec Králové-Poland border).
Recent motorway developments include the D4 highway, completed in December 2024, adding 32 kilometers of new road between Příbram and Písek. Additional projects, such as the South Bohemian D3 and the Hradec Králové D35, are also underway.

What are current prices?
From the start of this year, the prices of Czech highway vignettes rose across all categories. An annual vignette will costs CZK 2,440, up by CZK 140, and a 30-day stamp is now CZK 30 pricier than last year, standing at CZK 460. The 10-day vignette costs CZK 290.
Meanwhile, the recently introduced one-day vignette costs CZK 210, increasing by CZK 10, or roughly 5 percent.
Where and how can I get a highway pass?
You can buy all types of passes on the official state website edalnice.cz, which handily is also available in English. You may store it electronically.
The passes are also available to buy at selected Česká pošta and EuroOil branches. A map of sales points is here. Self-service kiosks are also dotted around the country.
Do exemptions apply?
Yes. Some discounts apply, and in certain cases, you won’t need to pay anything for a stamp. For example, electric cars still enjoy free highway use, and discounts remain available for biofuels like liquefied natural gas and compressed natural gas (plug-in hybrids).
If you drive a hybrid car (producing less than 50 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer), you’ll get an approximate 75-percent discount on all highway passes.
If you hold a disability (ZTP) card, you also do not need to get a highway pass. You will need to complete and send a "notice of exemption" form to public authorities; more information can be found on the official highway stamp website.
